Thread: Alexandra Burke - Overcome (Debut Album)

I am liking Bad Boys at the moment and she looks fabulous on that cover. not sure if it will be an album i run out and buy though...may have to spotify it first to give a few tracks a listen

Sounds quite good if a bit samey in parts because of the way the tracks are ordered. Like, I think the RedOne tracks all have a very similar vibe and they're quite close together. Love how the Ryan Tedder track has a beat again

I quite like The Silence and Overcome of the slowies. Then You Broke My Heart soungs interesting. I reckon the Ne-Yo song is a dead cert for release though.

And yes...she is releasing in America.

Two of the RedOne songs, Dumb and Broken Heels, are damn amazing. I love them so much, she's done well with him.

Can't wait to hear the rest of the album.

I haven't listened to the full thing yet, but I'll finish it at work. I like what I've heard, though.

Edit: Okay, now that I've listened to the full album, I love it! It's fantastic, one of the best albums I've heard this year. The only dud on it is They Don't Know, which is just boring. The Ne-Yo song is probably my least favorite of the rest on first listen, but I still really liked it. I don't think I can pick a favorite yet, since I've only listened the one time, but there are a lot of choices for singles on this one.

I liked it way better than I liked Spirit, since somebody was comparing Alexandra to Leona. Leona has an incredible voice, but her music is either "really pretty good" or "so hideously boring I want to slit my wrists just to make it stop." This album is more interesting to listen to, more fun to sing along with and definitely more fun to dance to. Spirit was a grower, and even then, only about half of the tracks were any good. Of course, those half were fantastic, so it evened out to fairly decent album. But imo, this one's better. I don't know if Alexandra is going to be as popular as Leona, but she certainly deserves to be, based on the two first albums.

I have managed to listen to the whole album and will be investing in it when i get paid. Its a great album and a nice mix of upbeat/dance along songs and ballads. My favourites on first listen are Silence, Broken Heels, Dumb and Overcome. But i thought the whole album was pretty good

I'm loving Broken Heels and Nothing But The Girl. My two faves!!

My favorites, besides Bad Boys, are Broken Heels, Dumb, Overcome, The Silence, and All Night Long. But really, I love 3/4 of the album, and there are only one or two songs that I dislike. She did a fantastic job for a debut.

It seems that a lot of people like Broken Heels ... Possible single??

Yeah I would like that, hope we hear some news soon.

I'd prefer Dumb or All Night Long over Broken Heels, personally, but any of them would be good. I'm sure either Overcome or The Silence will be a single at some point, if she decides to do two or three up-tempos and a ballad.

A brilliant album. I got it yesterday. A very strong record which I think fits in nicely with the Beyonce's and Rihanna's of the world. Strong Points are: Bad Boys, Broken Heels, All Night Long & Dumb. The ballads are just as strong as the up-tempo ones, which is unusual for me seen as I'm more for the dance. 5/5.

I've been listening to this album loads, its very consistent in my opinion. And she has a fantastic studio recording voice. Favourites of mine are 'You Broke My Heart', 'Dumb', 'Broken Heels', 'All Night Long' and 'The Silence'. Probably my favourite X Factor debut album.
